Virgona Agricultural Company is born to complement a long winemaking tradition, contributing to the enhancement of Salina’s wine production, given the economic, social, historical, and cultural importance that this sector has always had on the island.
The Aeolian Islands archipelago has the shape of a Y, with Salina, the ancient Dydime, located right in the center. Salina is the twin island formed by two ancient extinct volcanoes, Monte Fossa delle Felci and Monte dei Porri, now protected by a Natural Reserve. Within the 27 square kilometers of this lush volcanic land, a variety of environmental and scenic resources converge, constituting a heritage that needs to be tenaciously safeguarded.
Salina is divided into three small municipalities: Malfa on the northern slope, Santa Marina on the eastern coast, and Leni in the southern hinterland. Every year, it is a sought-after destination for thousands of tourists enthusiastic about the beauty the island offers, with its crystal-clear and uncontaminated waters, considered a true paradise for scuba divers. There are beaches, inlets, coves, and cliffs sculpted by the sea, as well as spectacular sunrises and sunsets with kaleidoscopic colors.
Salina is the island that, more than others, has managed to preserve its rural soul and maintain the typicality, genuineness, and authenticity of its traditional economy, based on caper cultivation and the production of the famous Malvasia wine. The island’s vibrant colors and intense scents are also captured and reflected in the variety of its cuisine, offering different interpretations of the local gastronomic tradition.
