The Virgona Agricultural Company is born as the culmination of a long enological tradition, contributing to the enhancement of wine production in Salina given the economic, social, historical, and cultural importance that this sector has always had on the island.
The Aeolian Archipelago has the shape of a Ypsilon, with Salina placed right in the center, the ancient Dydime, the twin island formed by two ancient extinct volcanoes: Monte Fossa delle Felci and Monte dei Porri, now protected by a Natural Reserve. In the 27 square kilometers of this lush volcanic land, there is a concentration of environmental and landscape resources that constitute a heritage to be tenaciously safeguarded.
Inside, it is divided into three small Municipalities: Malfa on the northern slope, Santa Marina on the eastern coast, and Leni in the southern hinterland; each year it is a sought-after destination by thousands of tourists enthusiastic about the beauties that the island offers with its crystal-clear and uncontaminated waters, considered a true paradise for scuba divers; beaches, coves, inlets, and cliffs for yachtsmen, cliffs sculpted by the sea, and spectacular sunrises and sunsets with kaleidoscopic colors.
Salina is the island that more than others has managed to preserve its rural soul and maintain the typicality, genuineness, and authenticity of its traditional economy, based on the cultivation of capers and the production of the famous Malvasia wine.
The dazzling colors of the island and the intense fragrances are also captured and reproduced in the variety of cuisine that offers different interpretations of the local gastronomic tradition.
